New York Attorney General Faces Criminal Financial Fraud Charges

A federal grand jury brought charges against the New York attorney general over allegations of bank fraud this past Thursday, per a person familiar with the matter.

Lindsey Halligan personally presented the charges before the judicial panel on Thursday, as reported.

Federal prosecutors rarely address such panels.

Halligan was installed as US attorney the previous month following Donald Trump grew impatient regarding the progress of inquiries targeting political opponents.

This action is the president’s latest effort to utilize the Department of Justice to punish opponents.

This occurs two weeks after Halligan obtained indictments involving Comey.

Career prosecutors prepared a memo regarding that situation outlining why charges were not warranted.

Comey denied the charges recently.
