Caelan Doris Makes Irish Selection But McCarthy Left Out
Newly reappointed head coach the Ireland coach has included skipper Caelan Doris in his Ireland squad for the fall matches, however Joe McCarthy has been excluded.
Doris, who has not played since having shoulder surgery in the start of May, has come back to Leinster training, but it remains unclear if he will be ready to play against the All Blacks in the US on November 1.
Lock McCarthy, however, did not make the cut after failing to recover from the foot injury he sustained during the opening Lions Test against the Wallabies in the summer.
Northern province forward Izuchukwu and southern province winger Nash are also absent due to injury, and number 15 Hugo Keenan was previously excluded after undergoing hip surgery following the Lions tour.
Leinster forward McCarthy - Joe's younger brother - is the only uncapped member in the 34-player squad, however Irish rugby authorities states uncapped provincial pair Edogbo and Gleeson and previously capped western province winger Shayne Bolton will travel to Chicago as "backup".
Following facing the New Zealand at the Chicago stadium in a repeat of their 2016 meeting, Ireland host Japan, the Wallabies and world title holders the Springboks in Dublin.
"There's an exciting look to the panel and it's a chance for the more experienced members and for the newcomers on the summer tour to Georgia and Portugal," said Farrell, who returns to Ireland duty after taking a sabbatical to coach the British and Irish Lions to Australia.
In a largely experienced squad, Leinster's Sam Prendergast and the southern club's Crowley will again compete for the first-choice number 10 spot. The number 10 jersey is remains available, with the two players poised to play against each other for the first time in the upcoming URC match at Croke Park.
Frawley is the additional fly-half chosen as the coach deciding not to calling up the province's Harry Byrne.
At scrum-half, Farrell has picked British and Irish Lion Jamison Gibson-Park and Casey, who led Ireland to the summer Test victories over the Lelos and Portugal. There is also a return for Connacht's Blade, chosen to teammate Murphy.
Robbie Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Ringrose and McCloskey represent an experienced group of midfield options. Jamie Osborne is another option in the centres, though the youngster is additionally a frontrunner to deputise for Keenan at number 15.
Wingers Lowe, Hansen, Tommy O'Brien and Stockdale are included. The winger impressed on his national team debut over the summer with a brace each in the wins over Georgia and the Lobos.
Paddy McCarthy is the only fresh name in the Irish forwards. The front rower has been in a couple of Leinster's URC United Rugby Championship matches this season and played in Ireland A's loss by the English in the English city earlier this year.
The 22-year-old was included in caretaker coach O'Connell's summer selection, but did not earn a cap.
Munster lock Thomas Ahern, who earned his first two caps in those matches, is retained, while experienced Ulster lock Iain Henderson is back after sitting out the summer tour.
Conan, who started each of the Lions Tests over the summer, is poised to deputise for Doris if the captain does not regain full fitness soon enough to play the All Blacks.
The national team will meet in the capital on Monday before flying to Chicago on the following day.
