Super Mario Galaxy Film Preview Debuts, Revealing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices
Nintendo alongside Illumination unveiled the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. It was showcased in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that focused exclusively on the forthcoming animated feature.
Following up on the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the distant reaches of the galaxy. Along the way, he discovers a fresh princess character and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
An Interstellar Journey Based on Beloved Titles
Similar to the Wii console classics that act as its source material, Mario will venture away from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. Throughout his extensive trek, he will meet again some familiar faces, such as the Luma, a popular character from the previous film.
But it appears Mario and his sibling Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who seemingly commands metallic abilities. Worth mentioning, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also includes nods to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers
The film will feature once again of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. It was announced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
Mario's Major Moment
The new Mario movie is planned to debut near the 40th anniversary of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Beyond the film, 2026 is shaping up to be a important time for Mario and his companions.
Nintendo confirmed a set of three fresh titles already confirmed for that year, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Launch Date Set
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
